ADSL's questions, pt 3

"Is there such a thing as a singles bar for sign languagers? If so, have you ever been to one and whats it like? Is everyone signing all over the place?"

Cute questions, indeed. :) What we like to do in order to have our own version of a singles' bar is we take over a section of a bar and chat away. The en masse of flying hands can be intimidating to waitresses and bar patrons.

There are three reasons for having our own singles' bar: 1) for deaf people to socialize, 2) for interpreting students (they're called that because they are studying sign language in hopes of becoming an interpreter) to help enhance their signing/comprehension skills, and 3) looking to get lucky.

Yes, I have been to one - that's how my wife and I started dating. ;)

I love these posts. How nice to know there are some happy endings to the "I met mommy in a bar" stories! :)

ADSL - that she is! Oh, you meant me! ;)

Mynx - I sure can do that. Look for it sometime in August.

Jewels - you know what's funny? My advice to people looking for a mate..."don't go to bars" Ironic, huh?

Copyboy - I'm a teetotaler...I probably was nursing my virgin Cuban Libre on the rocks when I met her. ;)

Was she learning to sign or become an interpreter?

Nitebyrd - she was studying to become an interpreter when I met her.

That is awesome!

I went to a deaf funeral in January.
It was unbelievably humbling.
I loved every minute of it. The signing instead of singing...it was amazing.
The interpreter speaking as the speaker signed.

Best funeral I've ever enjoyed.

This makes me giggle. I love the questions some people can come up with!

Did you know that there was an attempt for an entire deaf town to be built at one point in time? It didn't work out, but imagine that. Everybody who worked there, lived there, did business there would know sign language. That would be kinda cool, but at the same time I can't see people getting anything done. You know, with deaf people liking to talk so much, LOL

GoE - you'll have tp e-mail me about how you get to know some deaf people.

ADSL - wait til you try virgin vodka on the rocks...then you TELL me how ponsy that is. ;)

Furry Bottoms - yeah, I am aware of that down up in the Dakotas. I wasn't keen on the location tho. Further south is better!

TTL - thanks. Where did you find me from?

I love this question, it's brilliant! Things I would never have thought of to ask, but now we know how you met the missus!

Sandra - I am always asked how I met my wife. Perfectly natural to know the woman who is willing to put up with me. ;)
